ADR written instructions

From this post we want to share the instructions of the ADR (Agreement on the Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road) to be followed in case of accident or emergency that may occur or arise during transport, the crew members of the vehicle will carry out the following actions when it is safe and practicable to do so:

– Apply the braking system, switch off the engine and disconnect the battery by actuating the switch where fitted.

– Avoid sources of ignition, in particular, do not smoke or use electronic cigarettes or similar devices or activate any electrical equipment.

– Inform the appropriate emergency services, giving as much information as possible about the incident or accident and the materials involved.

– Wear the fluorescent waistcoat and place self-supporting warning signs as appropriate.

– Keep transport documents available for recipients on arrival.

– Do not walk on spilled materials, do not touch them and avoid inhalation of fumes, smoke, dust and vapours by keeping to the downwind side.

– Whenever it is safe to do so, use fire extinguishers to extinguish small/initial fires in tyres, brakes and engine compartment.

– Vehicle crew members should not act against fires in cargo compartments.

– Whenever possible to do so safely, use on-board equipment to prevent leakage into the aquatic environment or sewage system and to contain spills.

– Move away from the vicinity of the accident or emergency, advise others to move away and follow the advice of the emergency services.

– Remove any contaminated protective clothing and equipment after use and dispose of it safely.
