Changing careers is never an easy decision. It takes courage, a willingness to learn and the support of people who are prepared to give you an opportunity. Morris Okpo decided to start from scratch to build a more stable future and found in professional transport a career in which he could grow. This is the story of how hard work, training and the support of a team made that change possible.<\/p>\n

Some people find their profession from a very young age, while others discover their true path after experiencing different stages in life. Morris Okpo\u2019s story belongs to the latter group. His journey shows that it is never too late to reinvent yourself when you have the determination to learn and keep moving forward.<\/p>\n

Before becoming a professional driver, Morris worked for different companies and in a variety of roles. One of his most recent jobs was in the telecommunications sector, where the pace of work and constant pressure eventually convinced him that he needed a change. The endless calls and the feeling of always being in a hurry led him to look for a profession that could offer greater stability and peace of mind.<\/p>\n

It was then, through Lanbide, that he discovered the opportunity to train as a professional driver. He started from scratch, first obtaining his lorry driving licence, followed by the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and, later, his ADR qualification for the transport of dangerous goods, thereby expanding his opportunities within the sector.<\/p>\n

Once he had completed his training, he was given the opportunity to join Fern\u00e1ndez y Aedo. During his first few months, he was supported by experienced drivers who helped him take his first steps in the profession. Jos\u00e9 taught him how unloading operations worked, while Toni helped him build confidence behind the wheel. Through this gradual learning process, Morris gained the confidence he needed to become the professional he is today.<\/p>\n

He currently drives routes across France and various parts of Spain, particularly Barcelona and Tarragona, and says he enjoys a profession he believes he chose at exactly the right point in his life.<\/p>\n

One of the things he values most about working at Fern\u00e1ndez y Aedo is the organisation within the company and the resources made available to drivers. He has access to all the necessary personal protective equipment, safety systems and digital tools that make his day-to-day work easier, as well as constant communication with the transport manager and the rest of the team by phone and WhatsApp.<\/p>\n

Although life on the road involves many hours of driving alone, Morris says he never feels that he is working alone. He highlights the good relationship between colleagues and how easy it is to resolve any questions or issues that may arise. As he puts it, \u201cyou drive alone, but you work as a team.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

He also particularly appreciates the trust the company places in its drivers. Knowing their routes, working hours and planned tasks in advance allows them to carry out their working day with greater peace of mind and confidence, something he considers essential to doing his job well.<\/p>\n

When travelling, he usually takes food prepared at home and uses his breaks to heat it up in the lorry\u2019s microwave, although from time to time he also enjoys stopping somewhere to eat out during his journey.<\/p>\n

When he talks about the profession, he does not focus on its difficulties. On the contrary, he says that every destination has something to offer, although one of the places that surprised him most was Teruel.<\/p>\n

Those who know him describe him as approachable, kind and always willing to help. If there is one value he considers essential, it is respect. He believes that treating others with respect is the foundation of any positive working environment.<\/p>\n

As a father of four, he acknowledges that one of the main reasons he decided to change careers was to provide his children with a more stable future. That motivation continues to be one of the driving forces behind his desire to keep growing professionally.<\/p>\n

His next goal is to take on longer international routes, a challenge that will allow him to continue developing within the sector and take on new responsibilities.<\/p>\n

Morris Okpo\u2019s story shows that changing direction is always possible when you have determination, a willingness to learn and a company prepared to put its trust in people. Because sometimes, starting from scratch is the first step towards finding where you truly want to be.<\/p>\n

Descifrando el \u00e9xito de Braulio: Conoce su historia y logros en nuestra empresa<\/h1>\r\nOs dejamos una peque\u00f1a entrevista realizada a Braulio, uno de los integrantes de nuestro equipo. En ella podr\u00e1s conocer m\u00e1s sobre su perspectiva y experiencia trabajando junto a nosotros. \u00a1Comencemos!<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\nBraulio lleva trabajando en Fern\u00e1ndez y Aedo desde 2002. <\/span>Aunque siempre ha ido por libre, ya que es ch\u00f3fer aut\u00f3nomo con cami\u00f3n propio, siente que forma parte de la historia de la empresa: <\/span>\u201ccuando yo empec\u00e9 \u00e9ramos 8 y ahora somos m\u00e1s de 20<\/span><\/i> \u201c.<\/span>\r\n\r\nEs un hombre amable y cercano, desde el primer momento resulta f\u00e1cil comunicarse con \u00e9l. Da la sensaci\u00f3n de que est\u00e1 satisfecho consigo mismo, orgulloso de ser de Laredo (Cantabria) y de sus dos hijos Rub\u00e9n y David, algo que queda patente nada m\u00e1s verlo rotulado en su cami\u00f3n que pasea por carreteras europeas, desde Espa\u00f1a hasta B\u00e9lgica.<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nLa profesi\u00f3n le viene de tradici\u00f3n familiar, su padre era camionero de ruta corta. Braulio hace ruta internacional transportando sustancias peligrosas lo que le mantiene fuera toda la semana pero la ventaja es que el fin de semana est\u00e1 de vuelta en casa ya que este tipo de sustancias no pueden ser transportadas en d\u00edas festivos. Pero por esta misma raz\u00f3n en algunas ocasiones puede tener que pasar un d\u00eda entero inmovilizado si coincide que es festivo en un lugar del trayecto, tiempo que aprovecha a veces para pasear.<\/span>\r\n\r\nDice que ser aut\u00f3nomo ya no es lo que era, pero ya est\u00e1 acostumbrado a cierta libertad, le gusta mantener su independencia y eso le compensa aunque recalca que los m\u00e1rgenes de beneficio de ahora no son como los de antes.<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u00a0Est\u00e1 contento trabajando con Fern\u00e1ndez y Aedo, y aunque tuviera otras posibilidades de trabajo seguir\u00eda all\u00ed, de hecho ha tenido otras ofertas pero no ha dudado en ning\u00fan momento,\u00a0 porque para Braulio la confianza es un grado y valora especialmente la relaci\u00f3n personal y profesional que mantiene con la empresa. Se conocen desde hace a\u00f1os y se coordinan perfectamente. Por ejemplo, su condici\u00f3n de aut\u00f3nomo favorece que trabaje en fechas que pueden interesar a la empresa y libre en otro momento que le venga bien a \u00e9l.<\/span>\r\n\r\nTambi\u00e9n recuerda en especial, la comprensi\u00f3n que recibi\u00f3 en un momento complicado de su vida personal en el que necesit\u00f3 tiempo libre.<\/span>\r\n\r\nAdem\u00e1s sabe que desde Fern\u00e1ndez y Aedo la cobertura es completa y para m\u00e1s comodidad incluso trabajan con el mismo seguro. Desde la empresa siempre se ocupan del cliente de manera que Braulio se pueda centrar en su propio trabajo, y si surgiera alg\u00fan imprevisto del tipo que sea, hacen las gestiones necesarias para resolverlo y que pueda seguir su ruta sin problemas. No escatiman en detalles, durante el a\u00f1o proporcionan los EPI-s necesarios para desarrollar el trabajo en condiciones seguras, incluso en \u00e9poca de pandemia abastecieron de mascarillas, guantes y gel a los ch\u00f3feres aut\u00f3nomos igual que a los ch\u00f3feres empleados, incluso dieron a los conductores una prima extra.<\/span>\r\n\r\nDespu\u00e9s de tantos a\u00f1os de experiencia, Braulio se enfrenta al trabajo con tranquilidad, sin tensi\u00f3n, sabe que cumpliendo todas las normas todo va a ir bien.
