Get to know Agustín Fernández, one of the professionals who is part of the Fernández y Aedo team. In this interview, we explore his career in the transport of dangerous goods, the values he believes are essential for the profession, and why the human approach and the company’s support make all the difference in his day-to-day work.
At first glance, Agustín comes across as calm and reserved. He is approachable, respectful and attentive, qualities that perfectly reflect the way he understands his work: with commitment, responsibility and a genuine determination to do things properly.
His passion for transport began at a very young age. What child doesn’t love lorries? In Agustín’s case, he also had a very special role model: his father was a professional lorry driver. Although he grew up surrounded by the transport industry, he began his working life in the mining sector, a demanding environment where he gained valuable experience and developed the adaptability that continues to shape his approach to work today.
Over the years, he specialised in the transport of dangerous goods, focusing on chemical products. He holds all the qualifications and certifications required to carry out this work safely and professionally, including ADR, the Driver CPC and various courses in safety procedures and the handling of hazardous substances.
In addition to these qualifications, Agustín particularly values the ongoing in-house training provided by Fernández y Aedo. He believes it clearly demonstrates the company’s commitment to safety, professionalism and the continuous development of its drivers.
However, when talking about Fernández y Aedo, what stands out most for him is not only the training or resources, but the people. He highlights the company’s professionalism, good working conditions and, above all, the reassurance of always feeling supported. While on the road, communication with the company is constant, mainly through WhatsApp and telephone calls, allowing him to deal with any situation quickly and confidently, knowing there is always someone available to help.
That support has also extended beyond work. Agustín is especially grateful for the understanding and flexibility the company showed during a difficult family situation, enabling him to balance his professional responsibilities with his family’s needs.
His regular routes take him across Spain and southern France. Although every journey is different, schedules depend largely on the destination and, above all, on the unloading times, making organisation an essential part of the job.
Before every trip, he follows the same routine without exception. He carries out a thorough inspection of the vehicle, checking the oil level, tyre condition and every element that contributes to a safe journey. For Agustín, road safety begins long before the engine is started.
After so many years behind the wheel, he has a clear view of what the industry needs. He believes that anyone choosing this profession should do so because they genuinely enjoy it and fully understand the responsibilities it involves. In his opinion, driving a lorry requires commitment, responsibility and a strong sense of professionalism. If more drivers shared that mindset, both the sector and working conditions would improve.
The experience he has gained over thousands of kilometres has become his greatest asset. He is always willing to share that knowledge with his colleagues, especially younger drivers such as Morris and Carlos, who see him as a role model and greatly appreciate both his advice and his willingness to help.
For Agustín, one of the greatest rewards of his job is the independence that life on the road offers. He enjoys working autonomously while knowing he is never truly alone. Behind every journey is Fernández y Aedo, a company that is always ready to provide support whenever it is needed.
