The activities performed by transport operators fall into three categories, each requiring OT card accreditation to carry them out:
➤ Freight forwarders: they manage customs processes and the payment of customs duties.
➤ Freight forwarders: contract transport services and act as intermediaries between the shipper and the carrier.
➤ Warehousemen: they are in charge of the storage of goods and are responsible for the goods of third parties on their premises.
The main tasks they carry out in their day-to-day work are:
- Creating accurate invoices and quotations.
- Selecting suitable routes and carriers for transport.
- Negotiating rates and routes to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Ensuring compliance with transport rules and regulations.
- Manage the booking of spaces for loading and unloading.
- Create reports for monitoring and decision making.
It is the transport operator’s responsibility to ensure that the goods arrive at their final destination in the best possible condition. In addition, if customs clearance is required, he will be responsible for facilitating access and complying with the regulations for the payment of the corresponding fees and duties.
To obtain the Transport Operator’s card, the following requirements must be met:
- Be a natural or legal person, which includes labour companies, trading companies and cooperatives.
- Demonstrate good business repute.
- Be up to date with tax, labour and social obligations.
- Hold a professional qualification, which authorises you to carry out freight forwarding, freight forwarding and warehousing services.
- To prove a financial capacity of 60,000 euros by presenting the required documentation.
- Having a physical space to carry out the activity, with a municipal opening licence and complying with the relevant legal requirements.
- Proof of address and electronic signature.
