Here is an interview with Gabriel Fernández, one of the members of our team. In this interview, you can learn more about his perspective and work experience – don’t miss it! Discover what it’s like to work in our company through the vision of one of our employees.

He has known the world of trucks since he was a child. His own father, a truck driver by profession, convinced him to study for a degree so that he would have the option of pursuing another profession. So Gabriel studied journalism, he liked it, he even worked at Radio Euskadi, but he earned more with the lorry. So it can be said that he finally decided to follow the family tradition. He has been working at Fernández y Aedo since April 1995. He remembers his first trip perfectly, he was accompanied, they loaded in Lutxana, from there they went to Lodosa to unload and from there to Burgos and then to Asturias. They unloaded and loaded, and then went to another company…

The journey to Belgium is long, but it is calm, and the timetable is almost always adhered to, although you have to try to avoid Paris at certain times of the day to avoid traffic jams. This route lasts from Monday to Friday, so at weekends he has always been able to be with his family, his wife and his two daughters who are now 23 and 26 years old. In addition, holidays and special dates are arranged with the company without any problem.

Gabriel at first seems to be a person of few words, but one can guess that this reserved character is only apparent. He is a computer enthusiast and solves problems for other truck drivers who ask him for help with technology. In any case, he is calm and disciplined, very valuable characteristics in a transport professional. He enjoys driving, the freedom to direct everything and to be at his own pace.

On his route, he particularly likes the small villages of France and rather than sunrises, he likes snowy landscapes, provided that there is no snow on the road. When transporting dangerous goods, one wonders if there is a certain amount of anxiety on the road, but according to Gabriel, everything is under control. He knows his machine, his route and, above all, the characteristics of his tank, which will be different depending on the substance it contains. But above all he works calmly because he knows that the coverage of the company Fernández y Aedo is total, they resolve any situation that arises and in terms of safety the drivers are provided with special suits, EPIS, gas masks, goggles and a long etc….

He is comfortable at Fernández y Aedo because it is a family company, with the advantages that this entails in terms of feeling valued and accompanied, but also because he sees that it is a company that has known how to evolve, from being local with national routes to longer and international routes, and that despite the fact that the future of the sector seems to be complicated by the lack of truck drivers, as young people value family reconciliation more and do not want to spend time away from home, he has full confidence in the future of this company that has historically managed to adapt to everything.

Gabriel was self-employed with his own lorry until he had a major breakdown and became a driver in charge of the company. At one point he thought about becoming a civil servant and giving up driving, but it seems that destiny has decided that his future will continue to be linked to Fernández y Aedo, but now as head of traffic, in charge of logistics and organising trips according to the needs of the clients. This is a new stage in his career, a big change, an exciting one for which he feels more than ready.
