The 9th National Congress of Tanker Transport Entrepreneurs concluded with a remarkable success on Wednesday 18 October, exceeding expectations with the participation of more than 400 attendees. This event, the result of the collaboration between the Spanish Association of Tank Transport (CETM Cisternas) and the magazine Transporte Profesional, brought together different experts from the sector for two days full of high-calibre conferences and an extensive exhibition of tank transport vehicles and companies offering services, equipment and components related to these vehicles.

At the closing ceremony, Alberto Ramirez, president of CETM Cisternas, reflected on the challenges the sector has faced over the past year, such as the shortage of drivers and rising fuel prices. He emphasised the importance of strengthening relations with shippers and stressed the need to recognise the value of tank transport activity.

Likewise, Alberto Ramírez took advantage of the presence of Jaime Moreno, Director General of Land Transport, to request the Government’s backing on issues such as the adaptation to 44 tonnes, arguing that it is essential to establish a mandatory clause to adjust transport contracts in line with the associated cost increases.

The CETM also presented the results of a survey which revealed that only 45% of the current tanker fleet could adjust to the weight increase, which prompted the request for support for fleet renewal and modifications to the requirements for the Renove Plan.

In addition, the congress addressed key issues, such as the improvement of the Transport Chain Act, the extension of the route network for dangerous goods, the implementation of incentives to make the profession more attractive, among others.

Finally, emphasis was placed on the transition towards the decarbonisation of transport to achieve greater environmental sustainability, and on adapting regulation to the changing demands of the sector.

Jaime Moreno assured that the Ministry of Transport will continue to support road transport and guaranteed that no one will be left behind on the road to sustainability. Finally, he highlighted the joint initiatives of MITMA and the CNTC to attract talent through the Reconduce Plan.
