Freight transport mobility in the Basque Country will be subject to new restrictions in 2025. The Basque Government’s Traffic Department has established a series of measures to improve road safety, traffic flow and minimise environmental impact. These regulations particularly affect HGVs and vehicles carrying dangerous goods, so it is essential to be informed and plan routes in advance.
Main restrictions:
- Dangerous goods: Prohibited on Sundays, public holidays and the eve of public holidays (except Saturdays) from 8:00 to 24:00 and 16:00 to 24:00, respectively.
- Trucks over 7,500 kg: Restrictions on dates of high mobility, especially on long weekends, departure/return operations and public holidays.
- Sporting events and cycle rallies: Road closures on certain days and at certain times.
- Adverse weather conditions: Additional restrictions when there is snow, ice, fog or strong wind.
